2027 Subaru Outback
Outback is for buyers who want wagon cargo practicality with Subaru AWD as the default, not an option box. Trade-offs versus a CR-V: different seating/cargo geometry and typically lower peak mpg than hybrid crossovers.
What's confirmed (EPA 2027)
From EPA's 2027 Subaru listings:
- Outback AWD 2.5L: 27 mpg combined (25 city / 31 highway)
- Outback AWD 2.4L: 24 mpg combined (21/29)
- Outback Wilderness AWD 2.4L: 23 mpg combined (21/27)
Practical notes
Wilderness packages trade efficiency for tire/stance/off-pavement hardware — the EPA table already prices that trade in mpg. Standard AWD is the product thesis; if you do not need it, other brands' FWD hybrids may win on fuel cost.
